Back in the 70's when the cube first came out it took about a year for an instruction manual on how to solve the cube to hit the shelfs and I bought one but don't remember it being that hard. It's amazing that the cube is still around, my son has one and I noticed what a piece of crap it is compared to the original. If your really into this puzzle try to get your hands on one of the originals and you'll be amazed how easy it turns. No rubbing corners. no sticking, just smooth action.

@mackychloe lol finger tricks are the reason why I stopped solving rubik's cubes. I used the wrong solution to lube the cube. It was nice and smooth the first couple of days but then the substance just hardened, making the cube sticky and difficult to turn any side.

@hesitation24 it's true a lot of these alg's aren't needed, i'm now able to get to the last layer without any. Fingertricks is a style used mostly by speed-cubers to cut down on solving time, instead of using your entire hand to make rotations you simply flick your finger at the correct corner, (loobed cube required) when done properly it can radically improve solving time.

@mackychloe I'm not good at this anymore, I haven't touched a cube in about 2 years. Plus my record high is due to the fact that I was able to skip some steps from this video because most of them solved itself out when I was going through the first few algorithms. Averagely it used to take me about a minute and a half or two. I *HAD* been cubing for about 2 months. I don't know what you mean by "finger tricks" - what is that?

@f9gopguy The 90's was mainly comprised of a huge resurgence in animation because cartoons were given back to creators, instead of having executives handle and butcher shows, and didn't include the thoughts of women activists trying to make cartoons all about getting along or teaching you stupid crap. You've got a good view though. Cartoons are awful these days, that they are. I do like some, but a lot is just watered down stuff to make kids even more retarded then they already are.

@f9gopguy The late 80's, which was around 88 and 89 were picking up because of two main cartoons that I remember that started great ideas, which were Mighty Mouse, which started the era of creator driven cartoons, and without it, you wouldn't have cartoons like Ren and Stimpy, Tiny Toons, and Rocko's Modern Life. The other cartoon that even hit the ball even farther from the park was Tiny Toon Adventures, which was a god send compared to the other crap that was on at the time of it's beginning

The 60's, 70's and 80's were considered the dark ages of animation and they are solely right to appropriately name these era's for that, because they were all terrible cartoons that were based off of Marketing schemes. He-Man is a perfect example of a terrible cartoon of those descriptions. Hanna-Barbara cartoons were mediocre, but they were basically the only thing on that was at least entertainment.

Just to clarify... there is no cheating involved. There is a method to solving the cube blindfolded just as there is a method to solve it otherwise. When he's solving this, he is solving it one piece at a time using a set of specific moves. What he is memorizing is the order that he has to move the pieces around in order to solve it. Memorization is really the difficult part, and it's what sets the fast solvers from the slow solvers.

@RohanSajet; I think that's something he just does whilst trying to remember the next move. If he was feeling the Cube for braille, I'd expect him to feel more of the Cube, and for longer periods. And yes, I can solve the Cube, although I'm not so fast - approximately 30 seconds.

@SilentEliminator - I wasn't suggesting you were wrong - there probably are better algorithms for the 4x4x4 cube that are suitable for computers (or mobile phones ;-) ) but not for humans. This is certainly true for the smaller 3x3x3 cube.. The algorithm I wrote for this robot is based on the way I solve the 4x4x4 myself but with some optimisations that I suspect would be beyond most humans. It solves the puzzle in far fewer moves than I can myself!

@Noobtac - thanks for a good question - the 12 sided megaminx would be a significant challenge because of the shape of the faces and the angles between them! All my existing robots are designed to work with cubes which fits naturally with LEGO since it lends itself to constructing shapes with right-angles. BTW I am already working on another 'bot at the moment in my "spare" time so keep your eyes on the ARMflix and IAssemble channels or follow me on twitter @DavidGilday if you're interested ;-)

@Noobtac - thanks for asking how long the solve was in real time. I recall that it took about 19 minutes for this solve of 109 moves. In comparison, my "MultiCuber 777" can solve a 7x7x7 puzzle in around 475 moves in only about double the time.
